Why Hady Won Asian Idol

1. For a song that shouts triumph (Gemilang), Jaclyn sure didn't sing it as if she was in one; what Ken Lim said was true, that he felt it was like a routine for her. And seriously, just how many more times can you sit through that same song she over-performed?? It only proved one thing. She was not stretching her limits and the song was her comfort zone.

2. Abhijeet's "Look Into My Eyes" was draggy and yawning. Period.

3. Mau was purely showing off her vocals. There is a fine line that separates Alicia Keys and Mariah Carey (the latter was definitely breathless trying to reach her own notes of "We Belong Together", call it ambitious). And she lacks the X-factor. Need I say more?

4. No doubt that Vy was as sweet as candy. But as much as her powerful vocals was showcased in her English number, her Vietnamese song pulled her down, no cotton candy could save that. In addition, she probably earned the envy of too many girls who thought that she would one day run off with their boyfriends.

5. Mike, touted as the hot favourite, looked too much like an Asian Ruben Studdard. Being relatively seen as a "weaker" (I beg to differ, of course) counterpart to America, him being chosen could result in the lack of originality that Asians possess. Well, you can't blame them fully, what not with the rip-off music and films that so many Asian artistes and directors are guilty of.

6. Minahs of Indonesia and Malaysia probably was praying for this good-looking chap to come and perform in their countries. They also might hold the hopes of him choosing one of them as his wife. Hence, the majority of the 2nd votes that Hady won by. Although his choice of "Beautiful Day" was bad due to the lack of his vocal showcase, it proved one more thing. The song, previously sung by the winner of World Idol, had that good luck charm that might have been rubbed off by Bono due to his humanitarian efforts.

P.s: The writer admitted that she did not cast a single vote for Hady as she had planned to, being utterly disappointed at his choice of songs. Also, the Liverpool game (that they stupidly lost) was weighing more on her mind than Asian Idol. Nonetheless, she still feels very proud that Singapore has Hady Mirza to boast about to other countries.

Disclaimer: This entry is written with no intentions of insult to any of the idols above. Its just a more comical approach.
